It's here - our 4G Atrix Comment We know you've been waiting and thinking, and finally had enough time with the phone, laptop dock, pier HD / desktop, and all the accessories to give a good shot of this smartphone very special. Did we mention smartphone? Actually it is not entirely correct, because the device sports dual-core plays a quad as a laptop, set top box, desktop and ... Well, it works like a smartphone too. Atrix 4G, which has a 4-inch, 960 x 540 display, HSPA + data, and lots of other juicy specs is certainly the first of its kind - a multi-purpose device to replace your netbook (and perhaps more) through its Webtop environment. However, a phone can be powerful enough for your laptop or center of your home theater? Is this new Motorola phone designed to be the king of the Android stack, or just another face in the crowd? All these questions (and more) will be answered in our full review ... can be read after the holidays!
HardwareAtrix 4G hardware is significant for several reasons, not least of which is a drawing. The phone body is mostly plastic, but do not take it too - is put together so tightly that it feels like a lot of valuable material. Handset measures 2.5 inches wide and 4.63 cm in length and only 0.43 cm thick, which means that the Atrix is nearly as thin as the iPhone 4 - quite a feat considering how much power is packed inside . Telephone earns probably a little 'through the strength of its weight, which clocks in at a non-featherweight 135 grams (about 4.8 ounces) - and we want that much.
As with most phones, slate, the front of the device is almost all screen, with the exception of a family Android buttons at the bottom, and front camera and the headset up. At the top of the back side of the power / sleep function, which just happens to be a fingerprint scanner as well, and 3.5 mm for headphones. The right side of the phone has a number of rockers (the phone easily with your thumb, if you are right handed). On the left is the micro USB and HDMI. On the back, elegantly shaped bark, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and the speaker at the bottom of the phone.
What is unique is the hardware, a fingerprint scanner seems quite novel - but in practice is a little 'frustrating. Does not work as advertised, but re-told with a finger, if you do not want when you're trying to reach quickly the phone can be a bit 'awkward. If you do not really need a safety, a standard password is sufficient for most people.
Fingerprint scanner Subtleties aside, the Atrix 4G is one of the best research Android devices, we were able to use. We would have liked to see a higher quality of the materials at issue here, but despite the home, the phone comes off as both elegant and robust - a perfect combo for something that is likely to double (or triple) taxation in the connected world. From the perspective of industrial design, this device takes care of its own against the best of the best in the market today.

Interior / display / batteryAtrix 4G, of course, is not so much the look - it is about brute force. You know that Motorola is not kidding on the compression method of this laptop with a blazing 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 16 GB of onboard memory (plus a slot for microSD cards of 32 GB per second). Together with a massive built-in power, the device offers 960 x 540 capacitive touch screen that Motorola calls its QHD display - which also happens to be covered with a Corning Gorilla glass. You will also find radios needed here - 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and, of course, that the number of GSM HSPA +, which allows AT & T (a little 'generation), 4G phone call this hardware (more on that a moment). The phone also has a light and proximity sensor and accelerometer and a compass.
In short, this is one of the fastest (if not the fastest) Android phones we have used. Move the phone by even the most complex tasks was incredibly fast, and rarely found waiting for something to load. Navigating between screens or host applications and widgets business is silky and feels the competition with the likes of the iPhone 4G 4 or EVO. The flames only as a telephone independently and were impressed by how consistent ability was able to take what he threw, even when playing new game titles as 3D Bros gun, we do not "have not seen a hint of delay.
As the screen goes, we are very pleased to see the new Android phones by adopting higher-resolution screens. With real estate offers real added QHD, we were able to get much more use Gmail, browser and a handful of content-heavy applications, and text and images look clear on screen. There have been some problems with the Android applications that are not well take advantage of increased resolution, but they were few and far between - for the vast majority of software we use, the screen worked perfectly. The touch response is also excellent, although we can not say whether this is due to display technology to play here, or a super fast processor. One point of note - the display is difficult to see the light of day, and automatic brightness adjustment does not quite do the trick.
On the other hand, the 4G Atrix packs a 1930mAh battery inside impressive, although Android is data intensive, which ended more than 24 hours squeezing out of the unit on a single charge with a fairly heavy. You can probably have more time off the unit if you avoid calls when possible and keep the brightness setting under control, but we were pleasantly surprised by the performance we saw.
CamerasNothing Dinky ATRIX about 4G, and it also extends to the cameras. The real strength here is that the 5-megapixel shooter on the back of the camera, which cranks on an impressive shooting both high and low light, and can quickly adapt to different contexts. The camera also functions as a video camera 720p and have had excellent results capture HD content on the device. Even in low light to the bottom line.
However, resulted in the front, we were impressed by the camera's macro capabilities, but found that some of the images have a color that was a bit worrying purpleish. Not a dealbreaker, but we believe that quality and color saturation was exactly what could be. As for the video goes, we were impressed by the lack of camera movement, even brisk walking, but we are disappointed that the device switches from fixed focus while capturing video (see below in action here ), making it difficult to reach a variety of issues at once.
There is also a VGA camera on the front of the camera. As one would expect that the results that the shooter is not something extraordinary, but it's the thing, when you use it for video calls (or hair).
Regardless of some minor complaints, the camera on the back of Atrix 4G is more than enough to change the basic point and shoot, and we have no reserves to go out only with this phone in your pocket.
Phone / sound qualityWe have come to expect a certain level of audio quality when it comes to Motorola phones, and Atrix not disappoint. Not only the speaker on this phone and transparent exceptionally high, but the speaker on the back offers a crisp, full sound when listening to music or a handsfree call. Atrix 4G offers different levels of noise reduction headset, but it would not have to adjust something beyond the "normal" to get great results. Callers with whom we spoke told us that it was clear, which is always nice to hear, while testing a telephone.
With regard to dropped calls, we can say we had a handle, much less than is usually witnessed in our four iPhone AT & T. The network is far from perfect, but we have not seen a lot of questions called intolerable.

SoftwareIf you wait here's goodness cuca, prepare to be disappointed. Also, if you want the experience of values is not the Android phone for you. Instead, Motorola is the personalized treatment of clients Froy (2.2) build, with none other than - yes - Motoblur. We believe the Motorola skin community center following the way of the dinosaurs, but is back in force with Atrix 4G.
Now before you get all mopey and failed, we would like to say that the software side of ATRIX is actually quite good and there are many small improvements, the company is to bring together into Android a little more than one way consistent. It also helps that Google has started to update their applications regardless of base (such as Gmail, and Maps) outside the system updates, which means you get the same experience many places as you would on a Gingerbread clean driving Nexus S.
Since this is not exactly a new software version, we will only delve into some areas which are remarkable.
For starters, we're a little disappointed that Motorola and AT & T put ATRIX with a significant amount of bloatware. Vlingo, a handful of apps AT & T, Blockbuster, and a handful of other programs any vessel on the handset without the option to delete them. Worse, some of them may throw up listening to the communication end-users to register or use applications. Adding insult to injury, Motorola (or AT & T, who used to do this sort of thing) has locked the device in a way that not only prevents you from flashing the phone with a custom ROM but will not even allow users to install applications via email or SD cards. This means that when we gave our developers a new version of software to test Engadget, it was a complete no go for this handset. That's to open!
Update: Some of the applications pre-installed can be removed, but not all.
On the positive side, there are many good pieces to find in the operating system, including processing QuickOffice and PDF documents (which are dealt with quickly), and some of the ornaments Moto itself, the possibility of using Bookmark keyboard to find specific names or numbers (which greatly accelerated appeals of decisions), and the company has mobile access point. The latter was very easy to configure, but not issued any amazing download speed in use (more details in the data section).
We are not the biggest fans of Motoblur or widgets, but fortunately the vast majority of the shares is here Android widgets, allowing you to customize almost a pure experience. Of course, the big difference with this phone does not include applications or widgets - is the device's ability to function as a full blown computer when used with a dock accessories, and to us ...
Accessories / WebtopIt should come as no surprise that a great deal of confusion on the Atrix 4G is a really cost more than this, the phone turns into (almost) perfect port of the PC with the addition of a Motorola offers. Using software the company calls the Webtop (actually instantaneous measure builds on Linux), you can throw Atrix laptop or desktop platform, and fire up to a strange environment where you will be presented by a representative window of the phone (in is actually a phone booth) next to the Webtop software, which is mostly just Firefox, for example, and some of the settings and integration with phone functions. We'll find a little 'confused to use Firefox - Chrome is a product of Google's browser, and in addition to align with the Android, a browser is typically faster, even at low power system, begging the question why Motorola chose a older, slower than Firefox.
In addition, Chrome has only just begun to offer appropriate web applications, which seems perfectly suited to the system as the Atrix 4G. They call us crazy, but why not start at the Chrome OS environment?
